This 2-day course is designed for the person entering municipal government code enforcement or an existing employee who wants to expand their role. It explains the purpose, intent and rationale for codes. The two-day training session will be taught on campus at BFCA.
The code writing and adoption processes are explained. The different functions of a building department and how they interrelate to other agencies are also explained. Chapter 1 – Administration of the current International Building Code© is reviewed.
The course explains the role of the code official and the building department. Their role with their internal and external customers is explained.
The Building & Fire Code Academy is approved by the Division of Private Business and Vocational Schools of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). BFCA is an International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) authorized provider and an American Institute of Architects/Continuing Education System (AIA/CES) registered provider. Students completing courses receive 0.6 continuing education units, contact hours, and/or state credit where applicable. Architects completing classes earn 6 learning units. All courses qualify for health, safety, and welfare credit.
